Services Offered
I work in collaboration with my clients to evaluate their current struggles and identify the steps they can take to move forward towards more fulfillment in their every day life. Therapy is hard work and I believe in providing a supportive and confidential environment while this growth occurs. I implement a solution-focused treatment model, collaborating with my clients to establish short-term goals during each session so clients can begin utilizing healthier behaviors and tools in their lives starting from the initial counseling session.
I prefer to meet with clients for at least 6-8 sessions before discussing termination. We will evaluate at that time if the client or family can benefit from continued therapy. Some clients might feel they have achieved their initial treatment goals at that point while others might find it helpful to continue with counseling. Counseling is a commitment that requires time in order for long lasting changes to occur.
Individual Counseling
I utilize talk therapy with adults to uncover the underlying issues that are contributing to the current struggles that brought them into therapy. I help the client explore the changes they want to make in their life and equip them with the neccessary tools to work towards these goals.
Family Counseling
While working with families I utilize a relational family systems approach to counseling. This means evaluating the different relationships and individual dynamics within the family to best understand the current system. From there I can work with family members towards improving communication, relationships, and overall emotional health within the family.
Adolescent Counseling
With most adolescents I incorporate talk therapy although this might vary based on the current emotional state of the client. I typically check-in with parents and the adolescent together every three or four sessions to discuss progress and any current concerns. Sometimes a full family session will be necessary.
Child Play Therapy
When working with children I utilize play therapy, as play is the language children use to communicate and work through the struggles they are experiencing. I check in with parents weekly to get updates about their child regarding functioning in school, home, etc.
